An off peak return to Reading –a pretty simple, standard ticket you might think. If you pre purchase and pick up at a ticket machine you get five ‘mag stripe’ type tickets spewed out at you. Two tickets, two reservations, totally useless as you have a very handy off peak ticket and a train about every 10 minutes and a receipt. No wonder the railways are so expensive to run.

Indeed !! Why oh why can they not just do 1 ticket with all the required info on?? In fact I got challenged to produce the reservation part of the ticket on a half empty Trans Pennine Express not so long back !!
ReplyDeleteI once undertook a journey from Kings Cross to Stamford with a bike. From the ticket office, I got:
ReplyDelete2x tickets for the journey itself
2x seat reservations for each leg of the journey
2x bike reservations for each leg of the journey, passenger copy
2x bike reservation for each leg of the journey, bike copy
4x receipts for each separate item of the booking.
In all I had about 16 tickets... Now imagine that, when using say three or four different TOC's with a party of 4 each with a bike, say...
What a waste.
